Every day at least one song - Week # 12 (April 14, 2025)

When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

I was too slow this morning with getting this week’s posts set up, but I knew since yesterday that I wanted to post for you something by the Rhythm Shakers, a somewhat recent discovery of mine. If you follow this website closely enough you will have noticed that I do like all kinds of music, and rockabilly is just one of many genres I enjoy. The Shakers are masters at revisiting old influences from decades long gone by ranging from straight up rockabilly to soul or blues. And let’s not forget what a powerful voice Marlene has, just incredible. Since it’s Monday you get two, and not just one song. Have a blast!

Tuesday, April 15, 2025:

It’s Tuesday evening and while doing some dishes in the kitchen the TV is on PBS and Canada Files showing an interview with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. At some point the words “instant reaction” come up and my instant reaction to that was thinking of The Go hit from 1980. The band hailed from Yonkers, just outside of the Bronx in Westchester County, and played a brand of power pop I definitely appreciate. To many more instant reactions, have a great one!

The Brat hailed from East Los Angeles and played a great mixture of classic punk rock and power pop. They released a fantastic 12” EP, which has been reissued and comes highly recommended. ‘The Wolf’ might very well be their favorite song of mine, but there are many. If you are interested in learning more about the history of early punk rock from East Los Angeles, click here. Have a great one!

Motorhead’s “Iron Fist” album turns forty three years old today, having been released on this day in 1982. Lemmy always said he didn’t like the album, but in my opinion it is a strong album, and has gone somewhat under the radar since its release. I was a young teenage boy when the video was released and was instantly hooked to Motorhead ever since. After my first musical loves of AC/DC and Iron Maiden, Motorhead took it to another level and eventually led me to fall in love with Thrash Metal and Hardcore Punk, but that’s a story for another day. Have a good one!

Friday, April 18, 2025:

Since it’s good Friday and I have taken the day off from work I was planning on posting something related to Easter. Then I thought of Easter, the band from Los Angeles, featuring Danny Dean Phillips who originally fronted early ‘80s hardcore punk act ANTI. He achieved commercial success with Easter at the height of the MTV era, a band which at times featured Mike Ness and Brent Liles of Social Distortion as well. With that have a great day and a nice Easter!

Saturday, April 19, 2025:

It’s been an interesting morning with Olga the dog chewing my wife’s new glasses case, glad she didn’t get all the way to the glasses. Other than that it’s a grey and rainy day and time for a song to lift my mood. So here we go with one of the many bands called the Outsiders, this one from Cleveland, Ohio, with their biggest hit from ‘66. With that, have a great Easter Saturday!

Sunday, April 20, 2025:

Well, it’s Easter Sunday, the weather has much improved and it’s time for the last song for this week. While in the car yesterday with my wife we listened to some classic reggae and rocksteady, and a song from said era and those genres seems like the best choice to round off this week. Toots & the Maytals were without doubt one of the best acts representing those sounds, and with their ‘69 hit “Sweet and dandy” I wish you a great day and happy egg hunting!
