Music Video Documentaries # 1

With my Music Video Documentaries posts my aim is to highlight certain scenes, music genres or just in general music history that in my opinion matters and the world should know more about. In my first installment I am sharing the four videos that are part of the “Eastside Punks” series, produced by Razorcake Fanzine. Each video introduces a band that was part of a scene that developed parallel to the larger Los Angeles punk and hardcore scene and developed in the predominantly Latino part of East Los Angeles.

Episode 1: Thee Undertakers

I shall review my copy of the GTA CD at some point, but for now if you want to learn more about Thee Undertakers here an old interview with a former member.

Episode 2: The Bags

Should you want to learn more about the Bags, and especially about their great reissue LP, head over to my Hits From The Past review.

Episode 3:

I shall review my copy of the Stains SST Records LP on my Hits From The Past blog soon(ish), promised. In the meantime here a link to an LA Times article after the passing of guitarist Robert Beccera in 2023.

Episode 4: Nervous Gender

Nervous Gender were a band that up until recently I knew nothing about. I’ll see if I can get my hands on some music by them as they were certainly very interesting coming from a more experimental and electronic side of punk rock. For now if you want to explore more about them then click here.

If you want to dig deeper into the Eastside Punks series, then watch the Eastside Punks - A Screening and Conversation:

I hope you enjoyed these videos and that they will inspire you to find out more about Eastside Punks. Until next time!

I write mainly about different types of underground and under-appreciated music, and this website is an extension of my original Hits From The Past blogspot.
