Every day at least one song - Week # 13 (April 21, 2025)
When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

A very cool YouTube find the other day for this Monday morning after Easter. Zusamm-Rottung hail from Henningsdorf, part of the Berlin Metropolitan area and situated in the former GDR. They started in the late ‘80s right around the time the wall came down and ‘Zusammenhalt’ is one of their hits. According to the announcement in the video this is one of the very first time they played the song live as seen in this June ‘94 video. Smail, later on with the Shocks etc. was fronting the band while also on guitar at said time, and if I am not mistaken they are active again these days albeit with just one remaining original member.

I realized that last week’s songs I posted were more on the melodic side of my taste. I still enjoy Hardcore Punk, just not as much or as often compared to when I was much younger. Nevertheless, it’s time to post some noise, so here you have Kromozom 4 from France, who were around from 1984 through 1988. I like their chaotic style of hardcore, and I should really look into getting their discography. The band came out of the ashes of R.A.S., who played more traditional Skinhead Oi Punk. Should you understand French, here the band’s history. Have a great one!

This morning I finished listening to the latest episode of my favorite German podcast - Und Dann Kam Punk. My friend Pat Federli from Switzerland was interviewed in this week’s episode and had a lot to talk about the Straight Edge Hardcore scene of yesteryear in Switzerland. A band I remember very well is Profax, but to my astonishment back in the day I never realized how good they were. I have to be honest here and will admit that due to the fact that they were a straight edge band I completely shut them out. A shame, as this song proves that they very well could be viewed as the Swiss Verbal Assault. With that, have a good one!

My good friend Urs Voellmin would have turned sixty five years old today, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as he sadly passed away a year ago. Even though for many years we lived literally thousands of miles from one another, we managed to keep in touch and have lengthy phone conversations just like decades ago. One of my many great memories with Urs is the Bonecrusher gig in 2002 at the Cafe Atlantic in Freiburg, Germany. A whole group of us took the trip from Zurich, Switzerland, hence that car was full and we weren’t able to pick up Urs on the way in Basel. Luckily he and another Urs, former drummer of Vanilla Muffins, made the short trip up to Freiburg to witness one hell of a show. It was the classic “Followers of a Brutal Calling” era Bonecrusher line up, and they played a long and crazy set. I’ll never forget that night, and Urs and I often talked about it. I miss my friend dearly; he was a kind, honest and funny guy, and he loved punk rock through and through. Ruhe in Frieden (RIP), Urs!

What a hit from the time Saxon were clearly at the top of their game and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Or was that Iron Maiden? Regardless, I really never paid much attention to them, and only ever saw them once opening for Motorhead, albeit that was much later in their career. I sure as hell need to dig into some of their early releases, as this is right up my alley. Happy Friday!
