Every day at least one song - Week # 2 (February 3, 2025)
When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

Everyone’s favorite day of the week has arrived yet again, bloody fuckin’ Monday. But hey, let’s not all be down and depressed as we have a job to go to, and things could be worse. One of my favorite songs about working is ‘Working Man’ by the Wretched Ones from New Jersey, a band I was a huge fan of during their existence, and have remained to this day. I was lucky enough to catch them live in Hamburg, Germany when they supported the Angelic Upstarts, what a memorable night that was. Anyhow my working friends, have a good week and happy Monday!

Ichi-Bons from Toronto, Canada are a somewhat recent discovery of mine. I ordered one of their EP’s from Ugly Pop Records and reviewed it to my liking. Here a great video filmed in their own backyard so to speak. I sure as hell have to make a trip to Toronto one of these days and catch these guys live. Great stuff!

Italy boasts a rich history of Oi bands, starting back in the ‘80s with bands like Nabat, Rough, Hope & Glory and the list goes on. Erode from the small town of Como close to Switzerland released one full length and two EP’s in the ‘90s and until somewhat recently I have never heard of the band. It’s a shame their records go for a lot of money, because someone should really reissue their catalogue as it’s fantastic gloomy Oi.

Schnuppe from Berlin with their latest video I got in my e-mail box not that long ago. Since it’s Thursday night and in some places people enjoy an early start to the weekend I thought this might be a good start to a whole slew of drinking related songs coming your way. More beer for the girls I suppose. Cheers!

(Written on 02-12-25) On Monday I learned that I was to travel to London, UK for four days, accompanying my father-in-law to a funeral taking place on Monday. It is my first time back to London after having moved from there to the United States back in 2012. I think it is best suited to focus on songs from London or the UK for the next few days up until my return to Buffalo, NY. Off we go with Cock Sparrer from East London. While I really never considered myself a fan of them I definitely dig some of their hits, and they’ve had a few over the decades. On the flight from JFK to Heathrow it was interesting to see so many young people boarding the plane, many of them with colored hair and dressed “alternative”. I do not envy young people as each generation has their own struggles and while today’s young people have the freedom to dress however they want since it has become acceptable in the mainstream it doesn’t mean they don’t face any other challenges. This song reminds me of my years in East London and brings back fond memories.

(Written on 02-12-25) After having landed in London and getting situated at the hotel in Finchley I really felt for some authentic Turkish food. Luckily I found a good Kebab restaurant in the area and enjoyed a great meal with some Turkish caj. First time back in London after twelve years it felt like I have never left to be honest. It was nice to walk the high road in Finchley and take in the smells of North London’s multicultural neighborhood. Anyway, the song I am posting is from East London though with Leyton Buzzards. Back in 2010 or 2011 I got this song to be played on BBC6. I don’t recall what show it was, but they called me from the radio station and had me explain why I had chosen this song, and the story behind it. I used to live in Leytonstone, and it’s a smashing song. Enjoy!

(Written on 02-12-25) Sunday was a fun day as I hung out all day with my mate Marco who runs No Front Teeth Records. The day before the funeral it was a nice and relaxing day with many laughs and a trip to some record shops in Finchley. It was cool to visit Rise Above for the first time, but even nicer to see Alan’s record shop still being open. Found some good records for good prices, what else do you want? Here an HDQ song off of their first LP as I finally found a copy in a shop. This song brings back memories as it was on a really early punk mixtape back in the Mid-80s.
(Written on 02-12-25) Well, since it’s Sunday and Marco and I had lots to catch up about we of course talked mainly about punk rock, what else did you expect? Anyhow, at some point we did touch on Hard Skin, a band that has been around for a long time now by let’s just say successfully taking the piss out of a certain subculture. Injecting humor into music is always a good idea, and I should be ashamed that for whatever reason I have never seen these guys live. Shame on me!
