Every day at least one song - Week # 5 (February 24, 2025)
When I started Barstool Revolution I created a Facebook site and generated a daily thread where I would post at least one song a day. With social media sites increasingly useless for self-promotion to generate traffic to sites like this one - unless you are willing to shell out money - I decided to continue the “tradition” right here to add content and to hopefully generate more traffic to the site. As suggested, every day you will get at least one song, old or new that is, and of any genre. Stay tuned and check in daily!!!

Bloody fuckin’ Monday it is again, but for once no new snow on the ground and a much warmer week ahead hence really no complaints from this fuckhead here. Anyhow, Jerry Butler passed away at the age of 85 a few days ago, so it’s a good reason to pay tribute to his life and his music with one of his many hits. It’s a good song to start the week off me thinks and in that sense rest in peace Mr. Butler. Happy Monday!

Skiantos hailed from Bologna in Northern Italy and started out in the Mid-70s. They didn’t take themselves very seriously and drew from influences like Dadaism for instance. I suppose some people would refer to them as Punxploitation, and I can see why. Still, there is something about their rawness and their approach to song-writing I do find quite intriguing. I will have to explore their catalogue a bit more and see whether I will be doing more in-depth write-ups about them in the future. Happy Tuesday!

Angel Witch from good ole’ London were an integral part of the NWOBHM movement and consequently also influenced more extreme forms of Metal throughout the ‘80s. In recent months I have been digging deeper into the early days of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and without a surprise I have dug up a whole slew of acts I really like. This Angel Witch song is going to get stuck in your head, believe me. Happy Wednesday!

Alvilda are four ladies from France that play just simply wonderful ‘60s pop influenced power pop with a punk edge. They released a full length on Static Shock a few months back and have at least one more EP under their belt. Uplifting music that’s well crafted and executed, hope there is more to come from these gals. Happy Thursday!

The second month of 2025 is already coming to an end, just unbelievable. New Year’s seems like yesterday and spring is around the corner, so things are on the up ladies and gentlemen. I have heard of Mess from Mexico, but never actually checked out their music. Well, here you go with one of their songs from a few years back, definitely later stage Blitz influenced me thinks. Good stuff though, and I do enjoy the video with UK and Mexican footage being put through a mixer. With that, enjoy your Friday!

Bloody hell March it is already. Let’s start the new month off with the Parkinsons from London, albeit at least half of the band is originally from Portugal and part of a small but very active Portuguese punk rock community in London. I was at this show back in 2011, just about a year or so before I moved to the US of A. It was a wild show at a venue I really liked going to a lot in the Tufnell Park neighborhood in North London. Miss those days a lot, and with that I wish everyone a great Saturday!
Well, just watched “New York Dolls - All Dolled Up” on Night Flight, a truly superb early Film about the band by Bob Gruen and Nadya Beck. Really enjoyed a lot of the footage I’ve never seen before shot in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco, behind the scenes and on stage. The Dolls were a huge influence on the punk rock explosion waiting just around the corner, and equally as big of an influence on the ‘80s hair metal scene to be fair. I’ve read in recent weeks that David Johansen is in poor health, and unfortunately yesterday he succumbed to cancer at the age of 75. David was the last surviving original Dolls member, may he rest in peace.

Well, we made it through another week and it’s bloody Sunday folks. Finishing this week off on a bluesy note with Rufus Thomas, who was born in Tennessee in 1917. Not too long ago I bought a nice Compilation LP of old Sun Records singles with the title ‘The Blues Came Down From Memphis’, really excellent stuff. Will review it maybe even later on today for Hits From The Past. In the meantime, enjoy your Sunday and put on some great music!
